Dante’s Poetry Lounge

Dante’s Poetry Lounge - Dante Basco

DPLThis is a compilation of poems and spoken word pieces from actor/poet and iconic Asian American figure, Dante Basco. These are some of the poems that help start the spoken word movement in Los Angeles in the early 1990’s. He is one of the founders of, “DPL – Da Poetry Lounge,” (formerly “Dante’s Poetry Lounge”) which became the premiere poetry venue on the West Coast. These poems paint the portrait of a young artist in the sometimes crazy city of LA, living the Hollywood life. It’s all about, life, politics, love, sex and Hip Hop.

A limited run of signed softcovers is on sale now at my Maker Shop.

This book is available for download with iBooks on your Mac or iPad only, and with iTunes on your computer.

I am currently working on a second edition to publish as a hardcopy, so follow me on all my social media to keep updated on when that happens! Thanks to everyone who has expressed interest in my poetry…

  1. Shanozz says:

Is there still a way to get a hard copy?

  2. Casey Howard says:

Hi, Dante! I was reading your poems and they have inspired me! Do you know where I can find your book?

  3. James P. Wagner says:

Speaking as a poetry publisher myself (www.localgemspoetrypress.com) and a general speaker on ways to publish (and a fan of Dante Basco) might i reccomend a print on demmand service that automatically fulfills your orders and can also get it on amazon? That way you could sit back and let people buy to their hearts content–as I’m sure plenty of people (myself including) would do!

  4. James P. Wagner says:

Sure! there are plenty of print on demmand services to explore. I personally have used lulu.com or createspace.com and I find createspace to be a bit better because they make it very easy to get the book listed on amazon.com (since they are owned by the same people.) The process is very simple to set up on their website and once it is they fulfill orders placed online by your fans automatically and you can order copies yourself to sell at live events for only a couple bucks each a copy. All around a great service.

If you check out http://www.localgemspoetrypress.com at our bookstore you can see that websites I just talked about are the same ones me and my partners use to put out our books. The quality of these printers is wonderful they come VERY professional looking.

Oh another thing about createspace–they have the option to make the book available on kindle–which should be a huge help too.

No problem for the message, anything for a poet and for the prince of the fire nation. I hope this info was helpful. If you need any additional information or help feel free to drop me an email at localgemspoetrypress@gmail.com

And if you are ever in the New York/Long Island area and want to set up a reading or event for your poetry book, let me know because this is what I do for a living.

I am such a fan of poetry, I would love to be able to read yours. Is there some sort of notification list I could sign up for when your book becomes hard copy again? I see there is a notification for comments, maybe something like that? Thanks!

He’s probably going to announce it here, but if you follow him on his other social media accounts, like facebook, twitter or tumblr, I think he updates those more often.

  15. Grace says:

Is there like a waiting list someone can get on to get the book when it comes out?

  16. Awesomeamy says:

  17. Jay Tatum says:

Hey Dante, do you host events? I would love to discuss an upcoming event with you and talk about your prices.

  18. Never have I ever stepped foot in an actual poetry lounge? I hear it’s pretty chill, vibes always refreshing… Maybe one of these days I’ll travel to LA to witness it.
